1000+ year old Big Leaf (Gushu)
White, Loose leaf
Here at Spiritwood, our aim has always been to bring you tea from the world's happiest tea trees. We believe that nothing compares to the experience of drinking the tea of big, old growth trees. The taste is pure, but more importantly, nothing can soothe and rejuvenate the mind and body like real, wild gushu. This tea is our biggest inspiration, and if we could just share one tea with the world, this would be it.
The ancient tree this tea came from lives on the high, remote mountain Ailoashan. All of our single-tree puers are from different trees in the same area, and the tea from each tree has it's own unique taste. The leaves are only harvested once a year, in spring.
When I think of the single-tree Bai cha or Hong cha variations, I think of indulgence. The oxidizing process gives that final transformation into something candy-like. But when I experience this tea, I am reminded that it's every bit as powerful and medicinal as its Pu er cousin. A slowly unfolding symphony awaits the patient drinker. Medium mouthfeel and some cooling. The flavors never overpower, leaving room for a close up taste of the tree's individual character. Note that the gaiwan needs to be 150mL+ to fit 7g of leaf inside. I will update these tasting notes for each tree as the change. The current tree is 2020 A.
